SEA

Fun in and on the water

What is a trip to the beach without enjoying the vast wonders of the sea? In addition to floating or swimming in the crystal-clear water hugging the shores of Playa Encanto, you can also venture out on a paddleboard, jet-ski, or kayak. Onsite activity provider EcoFun Adventures is set up conveniently on the east side of the main infinity pool at Velero and is ready to fulfill all your aquatic adventures needs!

Cruises

Let Casago concierge arrange a day or sunset cruise for you to top off your stay in Rocky Point. Trips depart from the main docks in town, either from the northern or southern side of the harbor. Onsite activity provider EcoFun Adventure also provides various options for day and evening cruises, as well as day trips to nearby Bird Island (Isla San Jorge) to swim or kayak amongst the sea lions.

Fishing

The towering masts of shrimp boats in Rocky Point’s harbor echo the city’s past as a fishing village. You too can cast your line from one of the many fishing charters available. Casago concierge can help book the best fishing experience for you, whether just offshore or out at sea.

CEDO – Intercultural Center for Desert & Ocean Studies

Want to learn more about the extreme tidal changes in the area? Interested in when the best time to spot whales in the area may be, or conservation efforts in helping with turtle releases? CEDO is the place to go. The marine research center also offers a variety of eco-friendly excursions, hands-on seafood cooking instruction, as well as art classes for all ages. Explore area tidepools, kayak the estuary, or venture out to Bird Island with CEDO’s marine biology experts. CEDO’s field station is located at the whale skeleton in the area of Las Conchas just before you get into town.

Oyster Farms

Encántame Resorts is uniquely situated near popular oyster farms lining the Morua Estuary just to the west of the complex. What an incredible experience to see how oysters are harvested and brought fresh to the table! A rustic afternoon meal set up at a local oyster farm is truly an exceptional memory to be had.

Isla San Jorge

Gazing out at sea from your balcony at Encántame Towers, you may spot the outline of white cliffs seemingly rising out of the sea. The rocky landscape is part of the protected island reserve, also known as “Bird Island”, which is home to a large sea lion community. Various tour operators provide half and full-day adventures to the island, offering the chance to swim, snorkel, or even dive with local marine life. Don’t be surprised if younger sea lions line up to playfully follow kayaks around the bay. True to its familiar name, various species of birds, including the blue-footed booby, can be spotted Bird Island’s high cliffs.

Whale Watching

Fin whales and humpbacks can be spotted out at sea just beyond Puerto Peñasco from about mid-January through early March. Each year, whales make their way up through the Gulf of California to feed and have their calves in the warmer waters of the Sea of Cortez. It is not unheard of to also spot a whale shark from time to time in these waters. When out exploring the water, you will also surely spot dolphins skirting about.
